■“地球之肺”成了折磨我的心病

    幾十年前，卡扎菲就在沙漠裏寫了《大地啊，大地》警告人類：“大地是盛放人類各種營養的容器……大地還是你們用以呼吸的肺，一旦破壞了，你們就沒肺呼吸了。”好多年後，和卡扎菲針鋒相對的西方人終於發現卡扎菲的英明之處，他們順著卡扎菲的思路研究出地球共有兩個肺：一個是南美洲的亞馬遜、另一個是亞洲的馬來西亞熱帶雨林。

    ■只有最強健的人，借助最精良的機器、工具，發揮自身全部潛能，才能成功穿越雨林

    “馬來西亞熱帶雨林挑戰賽”是世界上絕無僅有的、穿越“地球之肺”的汽車比賽。由於近年環保之風日盛，允許如此龐大的車隊在原始森林中興風作浪已經十分罕見，整個馬來西亞也只有彭亨州一家如此開放它的原始雨林。

    馬來西亞熱帶雨林挑戰賽的創始人Luis 原來是外交官，後來當了賽車記者，1994年在印尼采訪“555拉力賽”，和我有過一面之交。看到東南亞“賽車旅遊”方興未艾，Luis下海組建自己的旅行社，專門組織和雨林有關的旅遊活動。熱帶雨林挑戰賽自1997年創辦以來，每年11月至12月從金馬倫高地的雲頂賭場出發，向下穿過彭亨州原始森林，最終到達東部海港城市關丹，橫跨整個馬來半島。在10多天的賽事中，所有參賽官員、賽手、記者必須自己攜帶食品、飲水、衣物、器材、野營裝備，獨立完成行駛路段和26個特殊賽段近千公里的行程。在不可預測的東北季風時節，不可預知的危險可能來自兇猛的野獸、極度險惡的大自然，更可能來自參加者生理、心理的崩潰。只有最強健的人，借助最精良的機器、工具，發揮自身全部潛能，才能成功穿越雨林。為此組委會和每個參加者簽訂了生死合同，一旦遭遇不測，雙方互免責任，這些早已熟悉的程式讓我變得很興奮。

    ■一條盤踞在草叢中的大毒蛇向我們“嘶嘶”示警

    馬來西亞接近赤道，終年炎熱潮濕，年平均降水2500毫米以上，仿佛泡在雨水裏。半島的4/5被森林覆蓋，盛產紅木、柚木和紫檀，還有大象、老虎、豹子……由於地廣人稀，“ 一億兩千萬年來沒有任何變化”。

    沿著紅色泥漿路顛簸前進，雲霧繚繞、古木參天，數不清的樹叢、藤蔓、雜草交織在一起，密密麻麻令人眼花繚亂。黑洞洞的原始森林潮氣很大，濃稠的白霧時隱時現，繚繞其間，發出腐敗的腥臭味，把馬達噪音和汽車尾氣吞噬得無影無蹤。一種高達七八十米的望天樹在雨林中“鶴立雞群”，其他中等喬木把剩下的陽光吸收得一乾二淨。各種喜陰耐潮的灌木和其他草本植物互相攀援，構成地球上單位面積生物最多的群落。沒人知道咫尺之外的密林中隱藏著什麼，再好的眼睛也看不出兩三米遠，只能感到樹叢裏一雙雙警惕的眼睛注視著我們這幫入侵者，使人後背發涼。

    亂哄哄的蚊子、小咬像一團團濃煙包圍著滿身臭汗的探險者，旱螞蟥嗅到人的氣息弓身從樹冠上彈下來，跳躍著鑽進濕漉漉的褲腿。幾隻綠色的大蜥蜴在車輪下斃命，一條盤踞在草叢中的大毒蛇向我們“嘶嘶”示警。據嚮導講，這種毒蛇名叫“過江龍”，被它咬到哪就得馬上“剁掉”，即使這樣也可能小命難保。嚇得我們趕緊夾緊雙腿，把腦袋縮進雨衣裏。

    ■汽車滑來滑去，就像大海上的航船

    雨林中的最大麻煩首推沒完沒了的大雨，暴雨來自地表的水氣蒸發，天氣越熱地表蒸發越厲害，暴雨就越大越頻繁。常常幾分鐘前還晴空萬里酷熱難當，突然間就烏雲密布大雨傾盆，無數溪流七橫八縱從紅泥地裏冒出來，夾帶著殘枝敗葉匯成滾滾洪流，連整棵大樹都能沖走。山崩、塌方、洪水、河流氾濫，把雨林弄得面目全非。大吉普車即使四輪驅動，加上絞盤、地錨、千斤頂、鋼釬……可還是無濟於事，連車帶人在泥水中掙扎。雨林千百年來積累的枯木爛葉、腐爛的動物屍體和當地特有的紅泥混在一起，形成深達尺餘的爛泥潭。汽車開到上面滑來滑去，就像大海上的航船，稍有疏忽就會滑出路面。有些地段坡陡路滑，駕駛者不得不借助絞盤一米一米地攀緣而上，10000磅絞盤的鋼纜繃斷之聲不絕於耳。

    ■除一名印度記者摔破了腦袋、一名匈牙利記者砸斷了大腿外沒有任何事情發生

    “所有參加者都以自己的理念參加遊戲，但遊戲規則由強者制定。”熱帶雨林挑戰賽組委會工作人員不多，可全盤繼承了大英帝國的殖民傳統，用英國人乾巴巴的英語控制著活動的每個細節。他們給參加者提供的防水背囊、襯衣、雨衣、T恤都很簡單，但結實、實用。

    號稱博采眾家之長又崇尚冒險的美國人沒有參加，因為馬來西亞是穆斯林國家，他們擔心恐怖分子會繼續報復美國。為此馬來西亞政府派武裝警衛保護車隊，但除一名印度記者摔破了腦袋、一名匈牙利記者砸斷了大腿外沒有任何事情發生。

    “打虎親兄弟，上陣父子兵”，在雨林中一路領先的是澳大利亞的Steve Chip和Steve Huddy兄弟，一位19、另一位23歲，一個是陸虎汽車澳洲代理，一個是電器工程師。他們認為穿越雨林不但需要紮實的技術和裝備，更需要一顆輕鬆的心，完全沒有必要把一次輕鬆的旅遊弄得很沉重。

 

    遊俠小結：

    馬來西亞是熱帶國家，即使嚴冬也需要短袖T恤。進入雨林前要準備好雨具、防蚊劑和充足的飲水。車況可靠的越野車、防滑輪胎、自救絞盤、大千斤頂、鐵鍬軍鎬必不可少。比這些更重要的是絕對輕鬆的心情，牢記海明威的那句話“如果你是好樣的，出了倒楣事全怪你自己。”
